Madam Ngo Kim Neo, age 22

Name of her husband and children listed on the tomb.

Husband: Lim Hock Seng
Lim Hock Seng of Ho Hong Steamship is the eldest son of Lim Peng Chin. Lim Hock Seng is President of the Amateur Sporting Association and residence was listed as 85-A Teluk Kurau. He was also known to be a well known dog breeder having participated in many dog shows.

There was a notice stating the mutual consent of dissolvement of marriage between Lim Hock Seng of No. 28 Scotts Road and his secondary wife, Khoo Lian Kim alias Khoo Ah Thoe of No. 11-B Eng Watt Street on April 15, 26064 or April 15, 1943. However, the lawyers of Madam Khoo said otherwise in a noticed dated April 27, 2604 and the notice was misleading as no time did Madam Khoo Lian Kim alias Khoo Ah Thoe entertain any though of dissolving the marriage much less consenting thereto. What was the eventual outcome, is not known to me.

Lim Hock Seng passed away at the age of 46 on April 9, 1946  at his residence in No 28 Scotts Road and is survived by his widow, Meggie, two sons, Lim Cheang Chuan and Lim Cheang Ean and two daughters; Lucy (Lim Khoon Neo) and Jennie. He is buried in the same plot as his parents in Bukit Brown.

Son: Lim Cheng Chuan
I found very little information about Lim Cheng Chuan. However an article of a Lim Cheng Chuan of Ho Hong Oil Mills struck me as his father Lim Hock Seng and his grandfather Lim Peng Chin is closely associated with Ho Hong. In that article, a decree nisi to be made absolute in three months, was granted to Mary Lim by Mr. Justice Jobling in Singapore in 1947, when she petitioned for a divorce from her husband, Lim Cheng Chuan, a clerk employed at the Ho Hong Oil Mills, Singapore, on the ground that their marriage was not consummated

Lim Cheng Chuan, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Lim Hock Seng married Miss Wee Gek Choo, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Wee Cheong Whye and Madam Lee Siew Lian in May 11, 1949.

Daughter: Lim Khoon Neo, Lucy
Miss Lucy Lim (daughter of the late Mr. Lim Hock Seng of Ho Hong Mills and Mrs Lim) married Mr Cheong Thiam Siew (a prominent local sportsman and the son of Mr. Cheong Chye Hock, an auctioneer) in November 1946. Over 450 guest attended the reception held at Victoria Memorial Hall. Cheong Chye Hock is the eldest son of Cheong Koon Seng. Cheong Thiam Siew went on to be the Chairman of Knight Frank. He passed away at the age of 84 in March 2007.
