Cheong Chye Eng passed away at the age of 8 years on 10 February 1931. His headstone is a crest shaped marble which broke off from the tombstone and was covered by soil over the years. Fortunately am able to dig it out and it was mostly intact.
His headstone reads:
In Loving Memory
of
Cheong Chye Eng
Born Aug. 2nd 1923
Died Feb. 10th 1931
Courteous & Promising Lad
His epitaph (Courteous & Promising Lad) is unique and a first for me among the tombs of children who died young. Cheong Chye Eng in the burial registrar is written as Cheong Chai Eng.
