Mrs. Tan Hum Ann nee Ee Joo Keow (Bukit Brown)

In an area recently cleared, we found this beautiful marble headstone but with one missing shoulder. It reads;

Born - 12th of Chinese 4th Moon 1862 
Died - 11 October 1929 
Aged 67 
Rest in Peace
On the shoulder still visible;
Mourners -
Grandson - Tan Tiang Seng
Granddaughters - Tan Mary, Tan Besar, Tan Tengah

It was unfortunate that part of the shoulder marble that is likely to contain the name of her son /daughters was missing. Fortunately from the newspaper archives, i was able to map the names of her children. At 74, Sims Avenue, off Lorong 19, Geylang, on 11 October 1929 - Mrs. Tan Hum Ann nee Ee Joo Keow, aged 67, beloved mother of;

Tan Siew Lock 
Mrs. Seow Eng Tiam

Messrs. Tan Kang Hoe, Tan Poh Tye, Tan Siew Lock and Mrs. Seow Eng Tiam thanked relatives, freinds and member s of Eng Wah Kok, Bee Huat and Co., Miller Rubber Export Co., Bukom Chinese Club and Sepoy Lines Funeral Association for attending the funeral of their beloved mother.

Son: Tan Poh Tye
Tan Poh Tye is the manager of Messrs. Bee Huat and Co. 121 Beach Road, Singapre. 
Mrs. Tan Poh Tye (nee Lee Kim Neo alias Puteh) passed away athe age of 46 on 16 May 1940 at her residence, 352 Onan Road. She leaves behind her husband, 1 son, 1 daughter an her mother. She was interred at Bidadari Cemetery after the cortege left her residence for Geylang Straits Chinese Methodist Church. 

Tan Poh Tye remarried to Nellie Soh Chye Neo. 




Grandson: Tan Tiang Seng
Tan Tiang Seng  - only son of Mr. Tan Poh Tye and the late Mrs. Tan Poh Tye (Puteh) and Miss Lim Suan Neo (second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lim Chwee Tiap) married at the Geylang Straits Chinese Methodist Church in September 1940. 



Granddaughter: Mary Tan / Mrs. Chia Boon Seng 
Mr. Chia Boon Seng, Wynn (youngest son of Mrs. Chia Thiam Chye and brother of Dr. Chia Boon Leong) got engaged to Miss Mary Tan (the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tan Kang Hoe). The wedding took place on November 1939 at Bethesda Hall, Brash Basah. Chia Boon Seng was worked for the Asiatic Petroleum Co. (S.S.) Ltd and the dinner party held at 352 Onan Road.

We are distraught to hear that Madam Ee Joo Keow, mother of Messrs. Tan Kang Hoe, Tan Poh Tye and Tan Siew Lock has passed away on 11 October 1929 and the cortege procession will be on the 15 of this month to be buried in Bukit Brown Cemetery. We wish the children and grandchildren long life and may God bless them
