The marble slab has broken to so many pieces and put together on top of the altar table. Fortunately, still able to make out the words;
In Loving Memory
of
Mrs. Lim Cheng Swee
nee
Ong Seok Neo
age 38
Died 2? December ???
Pia???? 23rd ? Moon
Sons: Lim Charlie, Lim Robert
Daughter: Lim Dorrie Gracie, Lim Pollyna Nellie
Unfortunately with a number of Lim Cheng Swee name during that time period and i that i am unable to find an obituary notice, it is not easy to make inference on the background of the personalities here. Was the tomb of Madam Ong Seok Neo exhumed a long time ago or damaged by some unknown force. I am not sure. There is no clear indention on the earth mound behind the tomb, but as you can see the headstone is almost gone with the headstone marble missing. This are usually indications of an exhumation, but this are just educated guesses and from years of exploring, sometimes educated guesses can also be wrong.
The social and cultural shifts within the 1920s Chinese community are particularly fascinating. Western names like the names of their sons and daughters; Lim Dorrie Gracie and Lim Pollyna Nellie clearly signal the expanding influence of British culture in colonial Singapore.
Location of tomb
Block 1, Division B, plot 376. Madam Eng Siok Neo / Ong Siok Neo passed away on 27 December 1926.
