Poh Hak See

Possible connection

There was a building contractor by the name of Poh Hak See / Poh Huck See that operated during the same time period.

Chop Bun Hin / Chop Ban Hin which operated a Granite Quarry in Pulau Ubin was once in the partnership  3 partners, Tan Eng Wah, Poh Hak Seeand Cheang Eng Yin and this company was also involved in the Telok Ayer Reclamation project. When Tan Eng Wah retired in 17 December 1924, his shares were bought over by Cheang Eng Yin. In 22 November, the partnership of Poh Hak See and Cheang Eng Yin was dissolved. The sole proprietor was Cheang Eng Yin.

Using his name from the burial registrar, Poh Huck See won a $134,800 tender to build 12 quarters for subordinates in McNair Road in December 1928.

Poh Hak See, a building contractor for over 10 years told the court in his public examination that his liabilities amounted to about $10,000 which represented losses in the contracting business which included the building of a English School in Bukit Panjang ($5,000), a house in Tanjong Rhu and Katong, Poh Hak See went on to say that he can't pay as he has had no employment, 2 wives and 4 children. The relatives of the 2 wives are supporting them (March 1934).

If we follow this possible thread, post March 1934, there was nothing further in the news about Poh Hak See and what happened to him subsequently. Pok Hak See in Bukit Brown passed away on 5 December 1934.
