Mr. Tan Chin Tah came to Malaya when he was roughly 15 years old (1886) from China and joined the Government Monopolies Department. He was later approached by Mr. Lim Peng Siang (Chairman of the Ho Hong Bank) to fill the capacity of manager of their branch in Muar. Mr. Tan Chin Tah held this position for 15 years and was forced to retired owning to ill-health in 1933. Tan Chin Tah was the branch manager of the Ho Hong Bank in Muar.
Death
Tan Chin Tah passed away at the age of 65 his residence, No. 130 Emerald Hill Road on 30 July 1936 at 3:30 am. Tan Chin Tah left behind;
a widow and 3 sons; Messrs. Tan Cheng Swee, Tan Cheng Tee and Tan Cheng Hai.
2 daughters-in-law and 3 grandchildren.
Mrs. Tan Chin Tah and family and Mr. Lee Kim Gin desire to express their sincere thanks to all those relatives and friends who so very kindly attended the funeral of the late Mr. Tan Chin Tah. Tan Chin Tah tomb has been unvisited for years.
On-site inspection shows that tomb is a double tomb for Tan Chin Tah and his wife, Madam Lee Lian Neo. Madam Lee Lian Neo tomb although present, does not have a death date engraved so i am not sure if she is actually buried here. After spending time clearing the tomb; the names of their children that i can make out is;
Son: Tan Cheng Swee, Tan Cheng Tee, Tan Cheng Hai
Daughter: Tan Siew Geok
Hopefully the descendants of Mr. Tan Chin Tah and Madam Lee Lian Neo will one day come visit and restore this tomb again.

On 3 August 1935, an application was made to the Directors of the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited to issue duplicate Certificate for 11 shares of $40 each registered in the name of Tan Cheng Tee of No. 130 Emerald Hill Road Singapore.

Beautiful Decorative tiles |
I found out from Victor Lim (a local expert in decorative tiles), that the tiles on the tomb of Tan Chin Tah and Lee Lian Neo are Art Nouveau tiles by Gilliot & Cie of Belgium, c. 1896-1920.
