Mrs. John Lian Ah Chin nee Lucy Lai Joon Lan (St. Michael's Catholic Church Ipoh Cemetery)

Mrs. John Lian Ah Chin nee Lucy Lai Joon Lan passed away on 28 September at 1:35 am at No. 60 Fryer Road, Ipoh after a short illness. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lai Tet Loke of Kuala Lumpur. (Born: 30 August 1903 - Died 28 September 1940 )
She leaves behind her husband, 5 sons, 3 daughters, her parents, 6 brothers and a sister to mourn her loss. 

[Unfortunately i can't find yet the names of their 5 sons and 3 daughter -if anyone has further information, do leave a comment] 

The wedding of John Lian Ah Chin (only son of Mr. and Mrs. Lian Khoo Hoo, Chief Clerk to the Accountant, F M S Railways) and Miss Lucy Lai Yoon ( eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lai Tate Luke and granddaughter of Towkay Goh Ang Yee, a noted benefactor of the Catholic Churches and Convent of Selangor) took place at the Church of the Lady of the Holy Rosary, Brickfields Road in May 1919. The Rev. Father Brossard officiated and the State Band was in attendance.

Father: Lai Tet Loke  / Mr. Lai Tet Loke, J.P., M.S.C. M.F.C (died 1953)
Lai Tet Loke was the President of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Selangor Miners' Association. Well known miner and member of the Selangor State Council.
He was credited for the invention of the apparatus called "the puddler" which was well used by many local tin miners. As the President of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, he was credited for the responsibility of raising nearly $40,000 towards the completion of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.  There is a street in Kuala Lumpur named after him.

Mother: Margaret Goh Tiam Neo
Margaret Goh Tiam Neo, beloved wife of Mr. Lai Tet Loke passed away at 9:52 pm on 21 December 1951 at No. 4 Rifle Range Road, Kuala Lumpur. Beside her husband, she leaves behind
6 sons: Lai Nyen Soon, Lai Nyen Koon, Lai Nyen Foong, Lai Nyen Foo, Lai Nyen Kwee, Lai Nyen Hee
1 daughter: Lai Nyuk Lan 
a son-in-law, 5 daughters-in-law and 22 grandchildren to mourn her loss 

Brother: Lai Nyen Soon / Dr. Lai Nyen Soon
Studied in King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore. In October 1929, Dr. Lai Nyen Soon was at Seremban General Hospital. In 1957, he was an Assistant Director of Medical Services 

Brother: Lai Nyen Foo
A student of St. John's Institution, Kuala Lumpur,  Lai Nyen Foo went on to Raffles College Singapore (1929-1931). The engagement is announced of Mr. Lai Nyen Foo and Miss Lim Swee Lian (daughter of Mr. Lim Choon Eng, the Kinta miner and Mrs. Lim Choon Eng) on September 1936. They were married at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Kuala Lumpur on May 1937. Lai Nyen Foo was a science teacher attached to the  Victoria Institution and formerly on the staff of the Clifford School, Kuala Kangsar. He is also a member of the Selangor Chinese Recreation Club. Wedding was officiated by the Rev. Father Gerrard. 
Bridesmaid was Miss Lim Foh Lian, flower girl was Miss Chin Lian and Master Chin Voon Fee was the page boy. The bestman was Mr. Lim Eng Hock of Ipoh. 
In 1958, Lai Nyen Foo was the Headmaster of the Technical Institute, Kuala Lumpur.

Brother: Lai Nyen Kwee
Mr. Lai Nyen Kwee (5th son of the Hon. Mr. Lai Tet Loke and Mrs. Lai Tet Loke) married Miss Teh Yew Cheng (second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Teh Geok Teong of Kuala Lumpur). The wedding took place at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Brickfields Road on November 1936.  From the articles i read, Lai Nyen Kwee went into the tin mining business. 

The bridesmaids were sisters of the bride, Misses Teh Yew Lan and Teh Yew Keok, Miss Cheah Peck Teen flower girl, the page boys; Masters Cheah Thiam Swee and Cheah Thiam Keng and Mr. Ong Yoke Lian, best man.

Sister: Bridget Lai 
A fashionable wedding took place in Kuala Lumpur in February 1932. The bride was Miss Bridget Lai (youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lai Tet Loke. The bridegroom was Mr. Valentine Chong (son of Mr. and Mrs. Chong Fook, of Sarawak. The ceremony took place in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Kuala Lumpur.

  1. I remember visiting St Michael Cemetery Ipoh in 2019 however this part of the cemetery was gated..
