Edward Chia Peng Siong was born on 4 June 1935 and passed away on 22 December 1952. The newspaper archives contains the reason for his cause of death at such a young age - drowning.
Chia Peng Siong, 18 years old, a St. Andrew's School student went for a holiday swim with his cousin, Yap Teck Chye and 2 others in the sea off Frankel Estate on 22 December 1953.
He remained in the water after his companions left. A few hours later, his adopted sister, Wee Beow Choo and her mother came across his body during a stroll along the bridge. There was no external injuries on his body. Chia's friend, Lim Chak Song told the Singapore Coroner Court that Chi could swim well. The Assistant Coroner, Mr. Giam Chong Hing recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
