Joseph Wong Thean Shi passed away at the age of 31 on 2 August 1934. On his beautiful marble cross design tomb, the epitaph reads; "Thy Will Be Done".
Joseph Wong Thean Shi was a senior clerk employed at the Borneo Company, Ltd. Ipoh for the past 12 years. He was also a member of the Catholic Club. He is survived by his wife and 4 daughters , 1 brother, Mr. Wong Thean Fook.
Joseph Wong Thean Shi just finished attending service at St. Michael's Church and was on his way home on his bicycle and was trying to cross Brewster Road and the junction of Church Lane (very close to the Convent School) to enter a by-lane (Po Garden Lane) which led to his home when he was knocked down by car owned by a Mr. Pegler of Whiteaway Laidlaw. Ltd. The car driven by a syce collided with Joseph Wong broadside on. He was unable to rise and was conveyed to the District hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at abut 8 o'clock.
The Syce (or Sais) by the name of Narasamulu, a Tamil was charged before Mr. C.W.A. Sennett with rash or negligent driving. The accused was the car driver of the manager of Whiteaways, Ipoh and was driving alone when the incident happened.
