Unnamed boy of Mr. and Mrs. Too Joon Ting (Bukit Brown)

The simple marble headstone reads,
No 75 Block 4
Here lies the
Beloved Boy
of
Mr. and Mrs. Too Joon Ting

To me this tomb is a rare find providing evidence where the baby buried here is unnamed ! Usually after many years of exploring, children who were unnamed and passed away don't even have a proper tombstone / headstone marked for them.

What was the boy's name and when did he die ? This information was missing from the tomb. Fortunately with the efforts of Raymond Goh in making the database of Bukit Brown burial registrar searchable, i manage to get a bit more insight about this boy.

Child of Joon Ting Too - passed away 6 and 1/2 hours on 8 June 1941. He was buried on 10 June 1941 and was Hainanese boy.

So in short it was a unnamed baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. Too Joon Ting who lived for 6.5 hours before passing on.

In the same area /plot are the following:
  • Unnamed child of Khoo Huat / 11 months 13 days / Dialect - Chawan - plot 745A
  • Child of Kwong Ah Hup / age unknown / Cantonese / Dialect - Cantonese - plot 745B
  • Unnamed child of Goh Guek Pin / 8 months/ Dialect - Chawan - plot 745C

Who is Mr. and Mrs. Too Joon Ting ?

I cannot be sure. The only one that fits the time timeline was a Mr. Too Joon Ting from Ipoh. But anyways, a shot in the dark as it was reported in the Pinang Gazette and Straits Chronicle 6 January 1940 - Local Miner's Son to Wed - Mr. Too Joon Ting & Dr. (Miss) F.N. Quee.

Mr. Too Joon Ting (third son of Mr. Too Jee Lim , the well known local miner (Ipoh) married in Amsterdam, Holland to Miss. F.N. Que. The bride to be was formerly from the Netherland East Indies (likely Indonesia) and is now practising in a hospital in Amsterdam. Mr. Too Joon Ting is an old boy of the Anglo-Chinese School (Ipoh) and graduated in engineering from the Hong Kong University before going to Scotland where he was an employee in the engineering firm of Hardland Engineering Works, Alloa Scotland. His career and political career seem to revolve in Ipoh and Malaysia while this unnamed boy whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Too Joon Ting is buried in Bukit Brown.

This remains a mystery for now.
