Soh Keng Liap was made a bankrupt in November 1931 with liabilities amounting to $1,403. Soh Keng Liap was for 20 years, a clerk on a salary of $50 which became sufficient as he and his wife were continually falling sick that lead to him borrowing money from moneylenders. Since been declared bankrupt, he has been supported by his son. Finally at the age of 66 in 11 December 1937, he applied and was granted discharge from bankruptcy. Less than a year later, Soh Keng Liap passed away at the age of 67 on 6 June 1938.
Madam Tan Seng Neo passed away at the age of 65 at No. 47 Joo Chiat Terrace on 25 January 1937. She leaves behind her husband, 1 son, Soh Beng Hong, 1 daughter, 1 son-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law and 9 grandchildren. Mr. Soh Keng Liap and family thank all relatives, friends and staff of the Singapore Harbour Board, chinese staff of Harper Gilfillan and Co., Ltd, members of the Sepoy Lines Funeral association for the visits, wreaths, etc.
