Ee Sian Poh (Bukit Brown)

It is a simple tomb of a 9 year old boy by the name of Ee Sian Poh who was born on 25 February 1917 and passed away on 21 May 1926.

Although i cannot further information about Ee Sian Poh nor about his parents but just eyeing the tomb, i can imagine that the tomb mason was not able to read nor write well in English but attempted to carve in basic English what was required or requested by the family. This also draws attention to the boy's family as well who may not have full grasp of the language, giving a snapshot of the chinese community living in colonial Singapore back in 1926 where having a good command in English is a sign of status as well.

Whatever maybe the correct story, the tomb of Ee Sian Poh is a reminder that he was once loved.
