The engagement was announced on 13 August 1928 of Mr. Cheang Thiam Chin, grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cheang Hong Lim and youngest son of Mrs. Cheang Jim Eng and the late Mrs. Cheang Jim Eng to Miss Chew Bee Neo, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chew Kiat Seng. The marriage will take place on 7 October 1928. Unfortunately, 5 years later, Mr. Cheang Thiam Chin passed away.
Cheang Thiam Chin passed away at the age of 27 on 3 September 1933. Listed on his tomb is one daughter: Nelly Cheang. From his obituary notice; Cheang Thiam Chin passed away at the age of 27 at 243-B West Coast Road, Pasir Panjang on 3 September 1933. He leaves behind his wife, a daughter, mother (Mrs. Cheang Jim Eng ), brother (Mr. Cheang Thiam Leong), sister and his parents-in-law ( Mr. and Mrs. Chew Kiat Seng).

The address of 258 Joo Chiat Road is familiar as it is the address of Mrs. Wee Bock Sin nee Tan Cheng Neo who passed away at the age of 73 on 11 June 1936 at her residence at 258 Joo Chiat Road.
