Lao Khian Siew and family (Bukit Brown)

Lao Khian Siew worked for 38 years with the P. and T. Singapore and on 1 January 1929 was granted 3 months vacation leave before his retirement. He first saw service in the Secretariat before he was transferred on promotion to the Postal Service. The last substantive appointment he held was Assistant Superintendent, M.O.B and Savings Bank. In short, Lao Khian Siew worked for the General Post Office Singapore. Lao Khian Siew passed away at the age of 81 on 13th June 1955 at 343-1 Upper East Coast Road leaving behind 3 sons, ( Low Yuen Lin, Low Kong Lin, Low Yong Lin ), 2 daughters, ( Low Gek Neo, Low Kuan Neo ) 3 daughters-in-law (Tan Kay Boo, Ko Eng Poh), several grandchildren and 1 grandson-in-law ( Johnny Tan Bee Chuan). The executor of his estate was Low Kong Lin of 34 Siglap Plain. It looks like his eldest son Dr. Low Piang Lin, predeceased his father. 

Mrs. Lao Khian Siew (Nyonya Tengah) passed away at the age of 61 at her residence,85 Clemenceau Avenue. She leaves behind her husband, 4 sons; Dr. Low Piang Lin, Low Yuen Lin, Low Kong Lin, Low Yong Lin, 4 daughters-in-law and 2 sons-in-law (Tay Kay Boe and Ko Eng Poh) and 11 grandchildren.

Family

Son: Dr. Low Piang Lim
Dr. Low Piang Lim was announced to having passed the examination for a triple degree in August 1925. He is the eldest son of Mr. Low Khian Siew, Office Assistant, General Post Office. 
Low Piang Lin was a Vice-President of the Singapore Athletic Union (1936) and a Vice-President for the United Confederate Funeral Association (1937-1938). What happen to Dr. Low Piang Lim post war ? (I can't find any further information about him) 

Son: Low Yuen Lin
Low Yuen Lin passed away at the age of 61 on 16th June 1964. He is survived by his wife, 4 sons (Low Tong Soon, Low Tong Seng, Low Tong Hock, Low Tong Nam), 1 daughter-in-law (Mary Low), 2 daughters (Mrs. Chan Kim Kee and Tan Boon Eng) and 4 grandchildren. The cortege left from 3, Jalan Kechot.

Low Kong Lin was awarded the Guthrie Scholarship in 1920. Low Kong Lin passed away on 19th February 1979 at 34 Siglap Plain. He is survived by his wife, Yeo Cheow Neo, son Low Thiam Bok, daughters, Jenny Low Thiam Neo, Patricia  Low Peng Neo, Adeline Low Cheng Neo,  daughter-in-law, Collen Goh, son-in-laws; John Tan Bee Chuan, George Lim, 5 grandsons and 1 grand-daughter. Mrs. Low Kong Lin nee Yeo Cheow Neo passed away at the age of 80 on 7 June 1983.

Daughter: Miss Lily Low 
Miss Lily Low, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Low Khian Siew and sister of Dr. Low Piang Lin and Messrs. Low Yuen Lin, Low Kong Lin and Low Yong Lin passed away on 2 January 1931. The cortege leaves from 85 Cuppage Road for Bukit Brown. (From the burial registrar, Lily Low was 21 years old when she passed away. She is buried in Hill 3 B, plot 1248)

Daughter: Low Gek Neo / Mrs. Tan Kay Noo
Low Gek Neo nee Mrs. Tan Kay Boo passed away at the age of 66 on 25th January 1979. She leaves behind son, Tan Kim Hoe, daughter; Renee Tan, daughter-in-law, Lucy Loo Geok Hoon, son-in-law; George Wee Kay Cheong, grandchildren; Alvin, Alex and Anissa. The cortege left from 125 Telok Kurau Road. 


Daughter: Low Kuan Neo / Mrs. Ko Eng Poh
Ko Eng Poh of Jurong Brickworks passed away at the age of 45 on 13th December 1955. He leaves behind his wife, Low Kuan Neo, 2 sons (Ko Cheow Beng, Ko Cheow Hian), 3 daughters (Ko Siew Hong, Koh Siew Tin, Koh Siew Lan). The cortege left his residence 343-1 Upper East Coast Road for Whitely Road Cemetery.

  1. I notice Mr. Lao Khian Siew and his son in-law (Mr. Ko Eng Poh) share the same residence at 343-1 Upper East Coast Road.

    Perhaps, after the death of Mrs. Lao Khian Siew, her daughter, Low Kuan Neo, convinced her husband to bring Mr. Lao over to stay with them.
