Madam Kang Siew Kee (Bukit Brown)

While exploring Bukit Brown, i stumbled upon a large and heavy piece of stone which had marble parts attached to it. Some of the words were visible and investigating further, i realised it was once part of the shoulder of a Teochew tomb that was just about 2 -3 meters away. What was it doing so far away and what impact caused it to be separated ? That will remain a mystery for now but the speculation is either it was damaged by a huge tree or artillery shrapnel that happened just before the fall of Singapore when Bukit Brown saw heavy shelling). The immediate puzzle was to find out the name of the occupant and fortunately with the help of burial registrar, the stone and tomb belonged to Madam Kang Siew Kee who passed away at the age of 36 on 8 September 1935.

The names of her children listed on her tomb are as follows;
Sons: Tan Cheng Hoe, Tan Teck Khiang, Tan Teck Yak, Tan Teck Seng, Tan Teck Ngiap
Daughters: Tan Teck Siang, Tan Teck Kiang, Tan Teck Joo, Tan Teck Ai

Location of tomb

Madam Kang Siew Kee is buried in Block 3 Division D, plot 207. The neighboring tomb (tomb of  Mr. Chia Wee Kee, plot 228) also was damaged whereby the entire shoulder and the one of the lion was also missing. Whatever impact that caused the damage was big enough to destroy the tomb shoulders of 2 tombs.
