The marble of statue of a person carrying a child is a landmark among the many beautiful tombs at the Catholic cemetery grounds of St. Michael's Ipoh, that is difficult to miss. The marble statue sculpture is of St. Joseph holding the boy Jesus. Another key that identify that the headless person is St. Joseph are the flowers that is he is holding - the white lilies. It symbolises integrity and indicate that Saint Joseph was the earthly spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose purity is represented by the chaste white lily.
The tomb belongs to Vastian Soosay Fernando who was born on 5 April 1897 and passed away on 29 March 1957. Mr. V.S. Fernando was a retired clerk of works for the Malayan Railway. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Fernando and children. Unfortunately, i am unable further details on the names of his children.
