Tan Kheam Keat (Bukit Brown)

Tan Kheam Keat was born in Penang and came to Singapore in 1902, eventually joining his brother, Tan Kheam Hock in the business of providing labour to the Singapore Harbour Board. He continuing managing the business after the passing of Tan Kheam Hock, this time with his son-in-law, Mr. Lim Mah Seang up to the time of his death. Other business interest include being Director of the Eastern Mining and Rubber Company, Ltd , Chairman of the New Lee Jin Estate Ltd. and business interest in Chop Sin Ban Ho Hin, general merchants, Kuala Lumpur. The newspaper article went on to mention that Tan Kheam Hock is associated socially with the Hoe Kee Club. 

Tan Kheam Keat passed away at the age of 54 at his residence at 92-8 Neil Road due to apoplexy on 22 June 1925. Listed on his tomb are the names of his children;
Sons: Tan Chong Kew, Tan Chong Hun, Tan Chong Tee 
Daughters: Tan Keow Tian, Tan Keow Nee, Tan Keow Suan
Grandson: Tan Huck Chye,  Tan Huck Poh

Tan Kheam Keat leaves behind a widow (likely to be Madam Khoo Chye Yong) , 3 sons (of whom Tan Chong Kew is the eldest), 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law (Neoh Say Eng and Lim Mah Seang), 8 great grandchildren. Probate of the Estate of the late Tan Kheam Keat was granted to Tan Chong Chew and Khoo Chye Yong.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Tan Khiam Keat (mother of Tan Chong Kew and mother-in-law of Messrs. Neoh Say Eng and Lim Mah Seang). The cortege left from No. 92-6 Neil Road for Bukit Brown Cemetery. 
The family of the late Mrs. Tan Kheam Keat thanked friends, relatives, members of the Penang Chinese Union and staff and mandores of the T.P.L Co. when she passed away (reported on 29 July 1926).




Son: Tan Chong Kew
Tan Chong Kew studied in Raffles Institution and in 1917 won the Tan Jiak Kim scholarship. He was a avid sportsman, being featured in articles in sports such as swimming, waterpolo, tennis.Tan Chong Kew and Tan Chong Gark (son of Tan Kheam Hock) travel together to visit the British Empire Exhibition in 1924.  In 1941, he was captain of the Singapore Volunteer Field Ambulance. 

Tan Chong Kew was the managing director of Singapore Chemical Industries. He passed away at the age of 55 at 154 Neil Road on 10 April 1952. He leaves behind his wife, Madam Loke Guat See, a son and 5 daughters.
