Bukit Brown exhumation in 1965

The news came out on Christmas Day 1964 that there would be affected graves for exhumation. 
The article reads: 237 Graves on State Land at Bukit Brown to be exhumed 
Some 237 graves on State land at the Bukit Brown cemetery will have to be exhumed to make way for the re-alignment of Lornie Road, off Adam Road.  These graves were situated within an oblong of about 12,000 square feet nearest to Lornie Road would be exhumed for internment on Jan 18, 1965 at Chua Chu Kang Cemetery (chinese section).  However the actual exhumation was delayed as the notice only came out on 26 March 1965 with a new date given - 26 April 1965. 

What is interesting about this article is the address of those affected is made known. Having information about the address is very useful in the burial registrar as it provides information on possible connection especially if the last know address listed on the burial registrar is the same. From this records, we can make out the tombs affected seem to be mostly from April 1943 period with a few from the July 1942 and one from April 1940.  From their count, 237 graves were affected with 110 adults and 127 children. Based on the burial registrar, the location of this affected tombs was at Block 4 Division C which was not surprising, because this blocks and division are the nearest to Lornie Road. 

What is also interesting are the names of some this addresses that were renamed during the Japanese occupation when Singapore was know as Syonan.

Miyako Byoyin - refers to Woodbridge Hospital

Hakuai Byoyin  - refers to Tan Tock Seng Hospital 

Shimin Byoyin - refers to St. Andrew's Mission Hospital
