In a Business Times article dated 30 May 1983, the article mentioned that the company was founded 49 years ago (that means around 1934) by the late Mr. Chan Wah Chip whose son, Mr. Chan Tai Chuan is now the managing director (but maybe they didn't dig deeper in the earlier story of Jurong Brickworks when it was under Wee Thiam Ghee ?).

A lesser know fact was that Chan Wah Chip was a nephew of Wee Thiam Ghee (then proprietor of Jurong Brick Works). It was Chan Wah Chip who tried to prevent his uncle, Wee Thiam Ghee from committing suicide on 21 January 1934 but failed.  After the death of Wee Tiam Ghee, Jurong Brickworks changed ownership to Mr. Chan Wah Chip and Mr. Koh Eng Poh. Wee Choon Guan (who in 1940 became Chan Wan Chip's brother-in-law) became a managing director in the 50's after the passing of Koh Eng Poh. Jurong Brickworks became a Private Limited company in 1954. After Chan Wah Chip passed away in 1977, the company went over to the hands of Mr. Chan Tai Chuan, one of his sons.
