Madam Sim Khuan Neo nee Mrs. Tan Piah Eng (Bukit Brown)

Madam Sim Khuan Neo nee Mrs Tan Piah Eng passed away at the age of 48 on 26 October 1932.

Husband: Tan Piah Eng
Mr Tan Piah Eng is the Assistant Manager  (later Manager) of the Bukit Timah Rubber Estate and a member of the Singapore Voluntary Infantry. He was a rifle sharp shooter that together with fellow volunteers such as Tan Soo Bin, Sir Song Ong Siang and Tan Chow Kim won the Warren Shield.  During the outbreak of War, he served a 4 year term dividing his time between his work in the Bukit Timah Rubber Estate and his duties at the Drill Hall as the Quartermaster. Mr Tian Pah Eng who was by 1922,  a Company Quartermaster Sergeant was awarded the Long Service Medal on the occasion of King George V birthday parade on 3 June 1922.

Tan Hoon Phian Neo (1906-1924) was the wife of Mr Yap Gim Teck. She unfortunately died at the age of 18 at on July 27, 1924 and is buried in Bukit Brown, Block 1 Section E, plot 151.

Miss Tan Kim Siang (youngest son of Mr. Tan Pian Eng and the late Mrs. Tan Piah Eng) got engaged to Miss Lee Poon Neo, Dorothy (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sian Quan).

  1. Once again thanks for sharing these precious photos. As one of the grandsons of Tan Piah Eng, I have a 1952 information that Tan Kim Seng was born in 1906 within the Bukit Timah Estates (now Singapore Turf Club) and Tan Kim Kee was born in 1907 also within the same estate. Both worked as his assistants with Kim Seng joining in 1922 and Kim Kee in 1923, working at total of 20 and 19 years there, then continuing to work with Syonan Gomu Kumiai (Bukit Timah Vegetable Farm)

  2. Tan Kim Siang was also called Ah Yoke and he used to live at the former Heeren building (torn down and built into the new Heeren)
