Chang Yang Hak and family (Bukit Brown)

The beautiful teochew tomb of Mr. and Mrs. Chan Yang Hak was probably exhumed judging from the headstone that was partially hacked and deep indentation of the ground behind the tomb. It is still of significance in Hill 3 Division D that can be easily seen. Chan Yang Hak passed away at the age of 57 on 9 December 1933. Mrs. Chan Yang Hak nee Madam Lim Peck Kee passed away at the age of 56 on 1 April 2602 (1942).

From the newspapers, Mrs. Chan Yang Hak passed away at the age of 56 at Hindoo Road ay 9 am on 1 April 2602, Syonan-to. She is the beloved mother of Messrs. Chan Cher Song, Chan Cher Seng, Chan Cher Peck (Suay Bah), Chan Cher Sang, Chan Cher Lai. She is survived by 5 sons, 4 sons-in-law, 6 daughters, 2 daughters-in-law and 21 grandchildren.

Chan Cher Song was the proprietor of the pineapple merchants, Chops Sin Teck Bee, Chan Swee Huat and Nee Seng Huat. 
A fashionable Chinese wedding was solemnised by the Rev. T.C. Gibson at the Presbyerian Church in Orchard Road on 4 October 1936. Mr. Chan Cher Song (eldest son of the late Mr. Chan Yang Hak and Mrs. Chan Yang Hack) and Miss Lucy Yeo (second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Yeo Soy Bah). The best man was Mr. Tan Chin Hoo and the bridesmaid Miss Low Ngeong Siang, a cousin of the bride, who is a sister of Miss Annie Yeo and Miss Mary Yeo, the well known local swimmers.

Obituary notice of Chan Cher Song


Chan Cher Song mother-in-law, Mrs. Yeo Soy Bah nee Hannah Tan was a well-known Christian worker and was the secretary of the Primary Department of the Straits Chinese Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Y.W.C.A. She passed away in July 1935 and is survived by her husband, 3 sons and 4 daughters besides other near relatives. Her daughters, Annie, Mary and Elsie are well-known Singapore swimmers as also are the sons, Henry, William and Arthur. Mrs. Yeo had 3 brothers, Lieut. Tan Koon Hoe (of the Salvation Army), Tan Koon Teo (of the Muncipality) and Tan Koon Guan ( a licensed plumber). Mr. Low Keng Kwang (a nephew) is doing poultry farming in New Zealand and Mr. Low Keng Yong lives in Sarawak. She has 2 nieces in Singapore, Miss Low Nyeng Siang, Low Yong Siang.

Son: Chan Cher Seng (11 May 1914 - 1 March 2001)
The engagement is announced between Mr. Chan Cher Seng (second son of of the late Mr. Chan Yang Hak and Madam Lim Pheck Khie of Singapore) and Miss Lee Khim Cheng (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ah Kow of Singapore). Mrs. Lily Chan nee Madam Lim Khim Cheng passed away on 31 August 1993. Chan Cher Seng  passed away at the age of 86 on 1 March 2001.
