Wee Kuan Yew (Bukit Brown)

Wee Kuan Yew passed away on 26 August 1925. From the burial registrar, he was as 41 years of age.  Listed on his tomb are his children;
Son: Wee Boon Poh
Daughter: Wee Boon Neo.
What is unique about this simple tomb written all in English, is the the tomb was erected by the members of the Tiang Choon Kok Association.

Wee Kuan Yew was the Hon. Superintendent of the Tiang Choon Kok when it was first established on 6 September 1921. The society provided funeral and moral support to the family of its deceased members. There were a number of such societies during the time, but rare to see this etched on the tomb specifically.

Tiang Choon Kok - a benevolent association

Tiang Choon Kok is a mutual assistance society for funeral assistance which was established on 6 September 1921. The members celebrated their 1st anniversary of the Association at the Katong Hotel (1511-A Joo Chiat Road) with "Ronggeng" dances and dinner at the lawn. The following day, they had ronggeng again followed by lunch tiffin lunch and finally a group photograph. 

During it's foundation on 6 September 1921, it's office bearers were as follows;

Vice-President; Mr. Ong Chin Kee
Hon. Secretary: Cheong Kim Hock, Lok Bian Koon (Hon. Asst. Sec)
Hon. Treasurer: Hoe Ah Loe, Teo Tiam Siew (Hon. Asst. Treas)
Hon. Auditor: Khoo Koon Liat 
Hon: Superintendent: Wee Kuan Yew,  Gan Cheow Kee (Hon. Asst Supt)
Committee: Toh Cheng Kiat, Chua Kim Teck, Yeo Kim Leong, Tan Chin Choon 


In 1924, when Mr. H. H. Loh was elected patron of the Tiang Choon Kok, he presented a hearse in honor of his election !

The End of Tiang Choon Kok

A general meeting of the Society (at which 27 members were absent) decided to dissolve and distribute the funds. A final decision was made at a General meeting held on 1 June 1947 at 37 Desker Road.
