Miss Tan Poey Joo (Bukit Brown)

The marble tomb reads; 

In Loving Memory 

of 

Miss Tan Poey Joo 

Born 22nd Sept 1913

Died 26th May 1954

Aged 42 Years

Miss Tan Poey Joo is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chong Khee and granddaughter of  Mr. Tan Kheam Hock. 

The only record i could find about her is from a 8 February 1926 article, where passengers on board s.s. Klang from Singapore arrived to Penang. Among the passengers were Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chong Chew, Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chong Kee, Mr. Tan Chong Teck, Miss Tan Poey Chin, Miss Tan Poey Kin, Miss Tan Poey Joo, Master Tan Huck Boon and Master Tan Huck Seng. 

In 1926, Tan Poey Joo would have only been 13 years old. 

Father: Tan Chong Khee (died July 17, 1958), age 73 years old
Tan Chong Khee passed away at the age of 75 on 17 July 1958 at 5 pm in 10 Tiverton Lane. He leaves behind 4 sons; Tan Huck Thoe, Tan Huck Boon, Tan Huck Seng, Tan Huck Swee, 1 daughter, Tan Poey Kin, 2 daughters-in-law and several grandchildren.

Listed on the tomb of Tan Chong Kee and Madam Khor Kim Lun (she passed away on 20 June 1951 at the age of 65) are their children:

Sons: Tan Huck Thoe, Tan Huck Boon, Tan Huck Seng, Tan Huck Swee.

Daughters: Tan Poey Chim, Tan Poey Kin, Tan Poey Joo. 

Grandsons: Tan Hong Gay, Tan Hong Wan 

Granddaughters: Tan Lay Hoon, Tan Lay Khuan, Tan Lay Yeong

Brother: Tan Huck Thoe 

Tan Huck Thoe (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chong Khee) and Lim Soo Geck (third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lim Nee Soon) married at the residence of Mr. Tan Chong Chew, 317 River Valley Road on 28 January 1934.  In the picture below, the best man was Mr. Tan Huck Chuan and Miss Lim Leck Geok.

Brother: Tan Huck Boon

Tan Huck Boon married Chew Siok Chin in December 1954. 

Madam Chew Siok Chin passed away at the age of 57 on 27 November 1976. She leaves behind her husband, Tan Huck Boon

Brothers: Chew Beng Teck, Chew Beng Chiat, David Chew, Chew Beng Guan, Chew Beng Keng

The engagement was announced  on 29 December 1924 of Mr. Choong Gim Cheow (son of Mr. Choong Lye Hin) with Miss Tan Poey Chim (eldest daughter of Mr. Tan Chong Kee of Singapore and granddaughter of the late Mr. Tan Kheam Hock
