Quek Teow Lim and Lee Jut (Bukit Brown)

One of the most beautiful set of decorative tiles belongs to the tomb of Mr. Quek Teow Lim and Madam Lee Jut (Lee Jeet). From visual observations, the occupants have already being exhumed, but fortunately, the headstone and its decorative materials still remain intact. Quek Teow Lim passed away at the age of 53 on 2 July 1935 while Madam Lee Jut passed away on 1 January 1965.

The most beautiful and a rare one in Bukit Brown is the one with an 8 tile panels forming a portrait of a lady. The tiles are come all the way from Belgium, from a company called Gilliot & Cie. The works of this company can be seen in the tiled façade of the Majestic Theatre in Chinatown, Singapore.  The other side panels represent farm live, with pigs and sheep being featured.
