Gan Tiang Kwee and Chua Siew Gan (Bukit Brown)

Gan Tiang Kwee was a Director of the Asia Insurance Co. Ltd. (1925), member of the Singapore Po Leung Kuk (1924). Gan Tiang Kwee was president of the Gan Eng School (1935), the namesake school that his father, Gan Eng Seng founded. 
 
Gan Tiang Kwee passed away at the age of 55 on 15 August 1944.

Madam Chua Siew Gan passed away at the age of 67 on 27 July 1957. From an obituary notice,  Mrs. Gan Tiang Kwee passed away at the age of 70 at her residence, No.51 Dunbar Walk, Frankel Estate on 27 July 1957 leaving behind 1 son, Gan Hock Hye, 3 daughters, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law and 12 grandchildren.

Mother: Mrs. Gan Eng Seng nee Madam Koh Eng Geok 
Mrs. Gan Eng Seng nee Madam Koh Eng Geok passed away at the age of 80 on 14 April 1944 at 170 Upper Serangoon Road, 5 3/4 mile. She leaves behind 1 son (Gan Tiang Kwee), 1 daughter, 3 daughters-in-law, 42 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren.  Madam Koh Eng Geok is within this cluster.

Son: Gan Hock Hai/ Gan Hock Hye / Charlie Gan /Charles Gan (27 June 1919 - 12 August 1990)
Charlie Gan Hock Hye studied at Gan Eng Seng School and later Raffles Institution. Post war he went to the Teachers' Training College and taught in Gan Eng Seng School and later Pasir Panjang Secondary School, until he retired in 1974. 
Gan Hock Hye also volunteered with the Straits Settlement 2nd Battalion, E Chinese Company in the Signals platoon.  He survived the war and continued to be a volunteer, post war  for 8 years while attaining his teaching qualifications. 
Gan Hock Hye married Miss Jenny Lim on 18 October 1947. 

Gan Hock Hye passed away on 12 August 1990. Remembered by Jenny, Pauline, Penny, Tom, Danny.

170 Upper Serangoon Road

In March 1923, 170 Upper Serangoon was for rent. It was describe as a large compound house with 6 bedrooms, tennis courts and garage. The person putting it out for rent was Kwa Siew Tee. In August 1923, Gan Tiang Kwee bought this bungalow and freehold land with area size of 79,285 sq ft for $16,000 from an auction by Estate and Trust Agencies Ltd. This means that Gan Tiang Kwee own this house from 1923 onwards. On 9 October 1952, there was an auction for this house. 

In an oral interview by Charlie Gan Hock Chye by National Archives, he described the house as a property bounded by Upper Serangoon Road, Charlton Road and behind, Surin Avenue.
