Tan Yew Joo (Bukit Brown)

Tan Yew Joo passed away at the age of 69 on 10th March 1926. From his tomb, i can make out the following children:
Sons: Tan Theng Tew, Tan Theng Hock, Than Theng Soon, Tan Theng Seng
Daughters: Tan Moi Im, Tan Leng Im, Tan Gaik Im, Tan Chooi Im, ?

Tan Yew Joo died intestate and his last know address was listed as Lorong 8, Geylang. He very likely had property in Johore as well as the Estate letters published (or rather the letters of administration were granted to the official administrator, Johore on 18 August 1936).

Who is Tan Yew Joo ?

Reports dating back to 1918 mentioning a person by the name of Tan Yew Joo who was a proprietor of many cinema halls. Dubbed as a local pioneer of permanent brick buildings for cinema entertainments, and credit for the building of Scala Hall, Kuala Lumpur, which was the permanent theatre built in either the Straits Settlements or the F.M.S. specially for cinematography entertainments. Mr. Tan Yew Joo has built since then permanent cinema theatres in several places, including Penang, Malacca (Cinema Francais) and Singapore. In Singapore, Tan Yew Joo erected - The Cinema by the Sea. In total for 1918, he controlled no less than 7 cinema shows. Is this Tan Yew Joo the same Tan Yew Joo buried in Bukit Brown - this is still unconfirmed for not.
