Ong Yew Inn (Bukit Brown)

Ong Yew Inn passed away at the age 68 on 9th January 1935. Listed on his tomb is his son, Ong Chin Beng. I can't find much information about Ong Yew Inn but fortunately there was an article which links Ong Yew Inn to Ong Chin Beng when Ong Chin Beng got engagement to Miss Mabel Tan in 1927. It is from this article i got to find out that Ong Yew Inn probably came from Semarang and settled down in Singapore.

Ong Chin Beng was a retired undefeated flyweight champion of Malaya who was said to have defended the Championship 4 times in succession becoming a champion after winning a T.KO against his opponent, Sng Chwee Seng. His ring career was comparatively short. When he vacated his spot, another legendary boxer by the name of Vivian "Boy" Walley went on the become the champion in April 1925 at the age of 18 years old. After Ong Chin Beng retired from boxing, he became a boxing promoter. Ong Chin Beng managed the New World Arena (whose Proprietor is Ong Boon Tat and Ong Peng Hock).
