Teo Kim Seng (Bukit Brown)

Mr. Teo Kim Seng was the Managing Director of Messrs. Gaw Brothers, Ltd., general merchants, with whom he was associated since the start of the firm in 1918. His two brothers, Mesrs. Teo Kim Swee and Teo Kim San were both members of the same firm. Teo Kim Swee was a director. Teo Kim Seng was a member of the City Club. Mr. Teo Kim Seng passed away at the age of 42 at his residence, No 160 Neil Road on 14 February 1936. He leaves behind 2 sons, Teo Beng Chuan, Teo Beng Wan and 1 daughter, Miss Teo Kuan Neo. His wife passed away before him on 21 August 1923 

He is buried in Bukit Brown, near his parents. Probate of the Estate of the late Teo Kim Seng (of No. 160 Neil Road and No. 59 Chulia Street) was granted to the British Malaya Trustee and Executor Company, Ltd. 

On Teo Kim Seng's tomb, the name of his children are listed as: 

Son: Teo Beng Chuan, Teo Beng Wan

Daughter: Teo Kuan Neo.

Gaw Brothers Ltd.

Incorporated in Singapore in 1918, the Gaw Brothers, Limited was based at 59, Chulia Street. The company were shipchandlers, mine and estate suppliers or stockist providing supplies for shipping, building materials and materials for mining. I found information about Gaw Bros, Ltd up to 1940, but beyond that, nothing.

Teo Kim Seng is buried in Block 3 Section C, plot 386. His wife, Madam Chew Kim Neo is next door. Teo Kim Seng's father, Teo Hock Jin is buried a row or two above.
