On 6 January 1943, the child of K. Kawase whose nationality was listed as Nipponese (Japanese) was laid to rest in a communal trench. Accompanying the child were the twins of Ho Moh Kum or Ho Moh Keong (Cantonese). Other than them, the child of Yeo Ah Huang (Teochew), Joseph Kong (7 and 1/2 months, Cantonese), Tan Yee Tew ( age 38, Teochew) and Tan Kim Nai (age 43. Hokchew) were also buried on the same day.
It is rare to find Japanese nationals buried in a Chinese cemetery and i combed a bit further the burial records around the 1942-1943 period to see if they were other entries. Indeed they were and this entries were consistent of very young children who were buried in Communal Trenches (I will add them to this blog post should i find more). To-date, i found 4 burial records. Why were they buried in Bukit Brown and not in the Japanese cemetery, I am not sure for now.
Burial entries of Japanese children buried in Bukit Brown
On 21 January 1943, the child of Heriamaseh Ryoken. It was a female child who died 3 hours after birth on 19 January 1943 and also listed as Nipponese and buried in a communal trench.
On 27 January 1942, another entry this time, a 1 day year boy of Yama Guchi Fukee. The boy was listed as Nipponese and also ended up in a communal trench.
On 7 August 1943, the entry of the child of Wata Nabehemi (?), age and sex not listed, but a Nipponese that was buried in a communal trench.
Note: I scanned through records from June 1942 to October 1943 to-date.
