Chia Tiong Suan and family (Toa Payoh Cemetery)

Mr Chia Tiong Suan (born 7 June 1884 - died 20 May 1921) was a manager of Chuan Moh & Co, Telok Ayer Street before joining the Hongkong Bank, under the leadership of the then Compradore, Mr See Teong Wah. Later Chia Tiong Suan went to the Chinese Commercial Bank where he rose up the ranks to be a manager. On the opening of the Oversea Chinese Bank, he was offered and accepted the post of manager. Chia Tong Suan was a manager for the Overseas Chinese Bank during the time where the board of Directions include Dr. Lim Boon Keng (Chairman), Tan Ean Kiam (Vice-Chairman), Lim Nee Soon. Chia Tiong Suan passed away on 20 May 1921. Manager of the Oversas Bank Singapore, his cortege left his residence, No. 119 Emerald Hill Road on 24 May 1921. Executor of his estate and letters of administration was granted to Lim Nya Keong (the lawful widow of the deceased).

Family

Father: Chia Keow
A wire from China, in November 1906, announced that Chia Keow, well known as a building contractor and head of the firm of Chia Keow & Co at 90 Benecoolen Street, had died in that country at the age of 63, to which he had retired some five years before, owing to failing health. Mr Chia Keow was acknowledged to be one of the leading contractors here, and his firm has executed some large contracts, including the construction of the Hackney Carriage and Jinricksha Depot, The Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, the Adelphi Hotel, Fraser & Neave’s Aerated Water Factory, Cold Storage Company's premises and the SCC Pavilion. He left his family in Singapore. The late Mr. Chia Keow leaves behind a widow, a number of children and grandchildren to mourn his loss. One of his sons, Chia Tiong Kim is a partner of Messrs. Kim & Co. , the well-known Booksellers of Singapore and another son, Chia Tiong Suan, a partner of Messrs. Chuan Moh & Co., Teluk Ayer Street.

Madam Chua Siew Neo the wife of the late Chia Keow passed away on 21st July 1910 at the age of 49 years

Brother: Chia Tiong Kim 
Mr. Chia Tiong Kim, who for some years carried on business as booksellers in No 6- B Battery Road and No 1 and 2, Armenian Street under the style of Kim & Co, and is now the popular Secretary of the Garden Club.



Son: Chia Boon Thiam 
Chia Boon Thiam (eldest son of the late Mr. Chia Tiong Suan and Mrs. Chia Tiong Suan) and Miss Lim Kim Neo (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lim Teck Kim ). In September 1926, over a hundred guest were present at a dinner at Ramsgate, Pasir Panjang in honour of the marriage of Miss Lim Kim Neo, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lim Teck Kim of Messrs. Lim Hoe Chiang Co. and of the Happy Valley Ltd and niece of Mr. Lim Teck Lock ) to Chia Boon Tiam (eldest son of the late Mr. Chia Tiong Suan and Mrs. Chia Tiong Suan).  


Daughter: Chia Neo Cheow
Miss Chia Neo Cheow, (eldest daughter of Mrs. Chia Tiong Suan and the late Chia Tiong Suan) married Mr. Lim Cheng Jin (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lim Chay Chuan) on 16 January 1926. 

Location of tomb 

Its on the part of the hill that is colloquially known as "Gelong Pah 黎弄吧".
